House No.32 is a Grade II Listed townhouse in Southwark, London, one of the capital's most architecturally significant residential boroughs, where Georgian and Victorian terraces sit alongside newer urban development.
Studio November was appointed to provide concept designs for the complete spatial reconfiguration of the house and garden. The brief required a careful balance: improving the way the house functions for modern family life while respecting the listed status of the building and preserving its original architectural character.
The proposed scheme redesigns the floor layouts throughout, opening up the lower ground floor to create a better relationship with the garden. A new glass extension to the rear was designed to bring light deep into the plan without disturbing the street facade — a common challenge in listed townhouse projects in central London. A new garden layout completes the scheme, providing outdoor space that feels like a genuine extension of the interiors rather than an afterthought.
All proposals were developed with listed building consent requirements in mind, working within Historic England guidelines for Grade II properties in conservation areas.
